[1], [5] This column is split into three usually, “Parish, Town, and County where Born,” “Age when entered in this Ship”, and “If his first Entry in the Service, to be so stated; if not, the Name of his last Ship, as part of complement, and date of discharge as nearly as it can be assertained; and if a Marine, his Division and No. of Company, and date of completion of 7 Years service; if a Supernummerary, by whose authority borne, and for what purpose.”

[2], [6], [11], [16] Also says: “N.B. The Character as above to be copied into all Pay Books.”

[3], [7], [12], [17] Subscription text was added in ink. The transcription is incomplete, as I presume the ranks of the deceased were added, but as my current photograph is too blurry to discern all of them, I’ve elected to leave them out.

[4], [9], [14], [19] As the HMS Terror muster book says “Double Pay”, it can be assumed that double pay applies here as well.

[8], [13], [18] Was added in ink. In other musters this is usually “River Pay”, the money paid out while preparing for the expedition.

[10] Removed: “and if a Marine, his Division and No. of Company, and date of completion of 7 Years service; if a Supernummerary, by whose authority borne, and for what purpose.” Also removed is the officer text: “If an Officer, the date of his Commission or Warrant; in whose Vacancy; what Ship received from; or if from Half-Pay”.

[15] Removed: “If his first Entry in the Service, to be so stated; if not, the Name of his last Ship, as part of complement, and date of discharge as nearly as it can be assertained;” and “if a Supernummerary, by whose authority borne, and for what purpose.” Also removed is the officer text: “If an Officer, the date of his Commission or Warrant; in whose Vacancy; what Ship received from; or if from Half-Pay”.
