Leopold McClintock to James Clark Ross (9/Nov/1851)
Note from Arctonauts: the year is taken from comparing Sunday, November 9th with the possible years this letter could have been written in.
My dear Sir James
Since your letter reached me I have called several times at your club but could not find out that you had come to London, so now that I am going over to “2 Gardiners Place Dublin”, and not having my journal to send you, I send a Copy of my letter to Capt Austin ^written^ shortly after my return. I think I was asked about 200 questions by the Committee, and was directed to draw up a plan of sledge travelling including every improvement I could suggest, and this I have done.
As you supposed, the Admty do not mean to consider Arctic claims until the Committee have concluded their deliberations.
I have made known my desire to be again employed in the search at head quarters, and my predictions in favour of Wellington Channel are also well known there.
I have been kept here exactly a month since we were payed off.
I remain,
my dear Sir
very sincerely yours
